Phil & Jolene Mayo

Phil and Jolene Mayo bring over 40 years of Christian ministry and teaching experience to their work around the world. Their journey has taken them from church planting in Boston, Massachusetts, to serving as global workers in Paris, France, where their son, Josiah, was born and where Phil first sensed a call to teach.

Phil is passionate about helping people engage deeply with the Bible. He earned his Ph.D. in New Testament Studies from Fuller Theological Seminary and has spent 18 years teaching New Testament and Greek, including 15 years at North Central University in Minneapolis. He is also an award-winning author; his latest book, Joining Jesus on the Way, explores discipleship through the lens of the Gospel of Luke.

Jolene has a lifelong love for people groups and cares deeply for the global church. She holds a Master’s Degree in Teaching English as a Second Language from the University of Massachusetts and has taught ESOL in both private language schools and public universities.

Based in Minnesota, Phil and Jolene now travel internationally, teaching in Bible schools and equipping emerging church leaders.

Joining Jesus on the Way

Joining Jesus on the Way takes a look at the discipleship teachings of Jesus through the lens of the Gospel of Luke. Luke’s unique emphasis on discipleship has long been recognized among the Gospel traditions. One might even call Luke’s Gospel a discipleship manual. In Luke, Jesus prepares his disciples for the power-packed ministry they will live out in Luke’s second volume, Acts.

In Joining Jesus on the Way, Mayo considers the implications of Jesus’ discipleship teachings for would-be disciples both then and now. This book is written to challenge 21st century believers to deepen their walk with Jesus, and to choose to take up that proverbial cross and follow him daily.
